Effects of an active prosthetic ankle during ambulation on stairs and ramps
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction Conventional prosthetic ankle foot systems are commonly not able to adapt to different conditions, e.g. stairs and ramps. Walking on inclined surfaces or stairs is therefore a particular challenge for a prosthetic user [1]. So the amputee is forced to compensate the deficits of his prosthesis by adapting the kinematics and kinetics of the proximal and the contra lateral joints [2].

Biomechanics of the ankle-foot system during stair ambulation: implications for design of advanced ankle-foot prostheses.
Unilateral lower limb prosthesis users display temporal, kinematic, and kinetic asymmetries between limbs while ascending and descending stairs. These asymmetries are due, in part, to the inability of current prosthetic devices to effectively mimic normal ankle function. The purpose of this study was to provide a comprehensive set of biomechanical data for able-bodied and unilateral transtibial...

The purpose of this study was to document gait patterns in a group of individuals with transtibial amputations (TTA) during stair ambulation, and to identify the functional limitations associated with this task. Ten persons with TTA fitted with a Seattle LightFoot prosthetic component, and 14 nondisabled subjects participated in this study. Electromyographic activity (EMG) of the vastus lateral...

OBJECTIVE To investigate the immediate biomechanical effects after transition to a new microprocessor-controlled prosthetic knee joint. DESIGN Intervention cross-over study with repeated measures. Only prosthetic knee joints were changed. SETTING Motion analysis laboratory. PARTICIPANTS Men (N=11; mean age ± SD, 36.7±10.2y; Medicare functional classification level, 3-4) with unilateral tr...
متن کاملGait Mode Recognition Using an Inertia Measurement Unit on a Powered Ankle-foot-orthosis
One of the challenges that any powered lower limb orthotic or prosthetic device must address for activities in the real world is its ability to recognize gait modes (level ground walking, stairs, ramps, etc.) and adapt to mode changes promptly. There are two critical aspects of this problem. First, the gait mode has to be recognized at the earliest possible time to prevent potential misfiring (...
متن کاملGait Analysis with Ankle Arthrodesis Shoes during Level Walking and Stair Climbing
INTRODUCTION Arthrodesis of the ankle is an established operation. The lack of normal ankle movement after ankle arthrodesis reduced the ability of the patients to walk smoothly on the arthrodesis foot. It would have a more profound effect in negotiating stairs, because large ranges of dorsiflexion and plantarflexion are required to accomplish this activity. Although gait characteristics have b...
